Training

Build exercises, workouts, sections and programs, deliver them to clients, and follow every set they log.

Updated

Training overview

Open Training in the sidebar, under Library, to reach your training library. It has four tabs, and each has a button in the top-right corner for adding a new item.

TabWhat it holdsAdd button
ProgramsMulti-workout programs, either Calendar (workouts placed on week and day numbers) or Fixed (an ordered list with no dates)+ Add Program
WorkoutsStandalone workout templates you reuse across programs and clients+ Add Workout
SectionsReusable workout sections, such as a warm-up or a finishing circuit+ Add Section
ExercisesThe exercise library: built-in exercises plus the ones you create+ Add Exercise

Everything in the library is a template. When you put a workout into a program, or a program onto a client, Fitora makes a copy, so you can tailor one client’s version without changing the template or anyone else’s training.

Only the workspace owner and team members with the Admin role can create items on the Training page and edit or delete library items. Standard team members use the library to train their clients and can edit their clients’ own workouts and programs.

The building blocks

Training content follows a hierarchy: programs hold workouts, workouts hold sections and exercises, and exercises come from your exercise library.

  • Exercise: a movement from the library, with instructions, equipment, level, type, the muscles it works and an optional demo video.
  • Workout: one training session with a name, description and image, made of exercises and sections. Each exercise has a set count, up to four prescription columns (such as reps, weight and rest), a note and optional alternatives.
  • Section: a named group of exercises inside a workout, of type Regular, Interval, Circuit or AMRAP. Exercises can be linked into supersets inside a section or outside one.
  • Program: a collection of workouts, either Calendar or Fixed.

Where training shows up for a client

Each client’s profile has a Training tab where you schedule or assign their workouts and review what they logged. It has four views: Calendar or Programs (depending on the client’s training mode), Statistics, Exercise History and Completed Workouts. Clients follow and log their training in the Fitora app on iPhone or Android.

Calendar and Fixed training modes

Every client has one training mode. It decides how their workouts are organised, in your app and in theirs.

ModeHow it worksBest for
CalendarWorkouts sit on specific dates. You fill the client’s calendar by importing a Calendar program from a start date, or by adding single workouts to days.Clients who need daily structure and a clear weekly plan
FixedYou assign one or more Fixed programs. Each is an ordered list of workouts with no dates, and the client works through it at their own pace.Clients with irregular schedules, travel or shift work, and training organised into phases

New clients start in Calendar mode, with their whole calendar visible to them and rescheduling turned off. You can change all three per client.

Switching a client’s training mode

  1. Open Clients in the sidebar and open the client’s profile
  2. Go to the Training tab and click Settings
  3. Open the Training Mode tab
  4. Select Calendar or Fixed
  5. Click Update

Switching modes deletes nothing. The client’s calendar workouts and Fixed programs are kept, and the Training tab opens the view for the new mode.

Managing your exercise library

The Exercises tab lists the built-in exercise library together with the exercises you create. Each row shows the exercise’s thumbnail, its Primary Focus (main and secondary muscles), Type, Level, and whether it is Custom, meaning one of yours. Click a thumbnail to play the exercise’s video, and click a row to open the exercise.

Searching and filtering

Type in Search exercise to find an exercise by name, or click the filter icon next to the search box to narrow the list:

  • Status: Active, Archived or All
  • Hide Fitora Library: show only your own exercises
  • Equipment, Main Muscle, Exercise Type and Level

Click Clear filters to reset them. The same search and filters, apart from Status, appear wherever you pick exercises while building a workout.

Creating an exercise

  1. Open Training in the sidebar and go to the Exercises tab
  2. Click + Add Exercise in the top-right corner
  3. Enter a Name (required) and optional Instructions
  4. Under Filters, choose the Main Muscle (required) and, optionally, the Equipment, Level, Type and any Secondary Muscles
  5. Under Media, paste a YouTube Link or upload a Custom Video
  6. Click Add Exercise
FieldOptions
EquipmentBand, Barbell, Body Only, Cable, Dumbbell, E-Z Curl Bar, Exercise Ball, Foam Roll, Kettlebells, Machine, Medicine Ball, Rope, Suspension, Other, None
LevelBeginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert
TypeCardio, Plyometrics, Strength, Stretching
Main Muscle and Secondary MusclesAbdominals, Abductors, Adductors, Biceps, Calves, Chest, Core, Erector Spinae, Forearms, Glutes, Hamstrings, Hip Flexors, Lats, Lower Back, Middle Back, Neck, Obliques, Quadriceps, Shoulders, Tibialis, Traps, Triceps, Upper Back

An exercise has either a YouTube link or an uploaded video, not both. Uploaded videos can be MP4, WebM or MOV files up to 100 MB; for longer demos, use a YouTube link.

Main Muscle and Secondary Muscles drive a client’s training statistics: each logged set counts as a full set for the main muscle’s group and as half a set for each secondary muscle’s group. An exercise with the wrong muscles skews the charts of every client who logs it.

Editing and archiving your exercises

Click one of your exercises to edit it, then click Update Exercise. Built-in exercises open read-only, as Exercise Details.

To retire one of your exercises, click the archive icon on its row and confirm with Archive exercise. It leaves your active library, but workouts that already use it keep showing it. To bring it back, set Status to Archived and click the unarchive icon on its row.

You can also create an exercise without leaving the workout editor: click New above the exercise library panel.

Building a workout

Workouts use the same editor wherever they live: in your Workouts library, inside a program, or on a client’s calendar or Fixed program.

Creating a library workout

  1. Open Training in the sidebar and go to the Workouts tab
  2. Click + Add Workout
  3. Enter a Workout name and an optional Description, then click Add Workout. Or let Fitora AI build it on its tab (see Building a workout with Fitora AI)
  4. Click the new workout in the list to open the workout editor

The workout editor

The editor shows the workout’s image and name at the top, a description field, and the list of exercises and sections. On a wide screen, your exercise library sits in a panel on the left, with search, filters and a List or Grid view.

  1. Click Add Exercise at the bottom of the list to add a standalone exercise, or Add Section to add a section (see Sections and supersets)
  2. Pick the exercise in the dialog, or drag it in from the library panel
  3. In the exercise’s table, enter the number of Sets, then choose up to four columns from the headers, which read (Optional) until you pick one
  4. Enter a target value in every column you picked
  5. Optionally click Add a note to write instructions the client sees with the exercise
  6. Drag exercises and sections by their handle to change the order
  7. Click Save

Prescription columns

Each exercise has one row of targets: a set count plus up to four columns. Choose a column type from each header’s dropdown; each type can be used once per exercise.

ColumnHow you enter the target
RepsFree text, for example 12, or one value per set such as 12, 10, 8
WeightFree text, for example 20kg
TempoFree text, for example 3-1-2-0
Rest, DurationA minutes-and-seconds picker
TimeFree text, for example 1m 30s or 20 min; a plain number counts as seconds
RPE, RIR, RPM, Speed, Cadence, Distance, Height, Calories, RoundFree text

Every column you pick needs a value before the workout can be saved; empty ones are marked Required. Pick only the columns you want the client to follow and record.

Alternatives

Open an exercise’s menu and choose Add Alternative to offer another exercise the client can swap in, for example when a machine is taken. Alternatives appear under the exercise; hover one and click its × to remove it. Click an exercise’s thumbnail to view its details and video.

Workout image

Click the image square next to the workout name to open Workout Image. Pick one of the built-in images or click Upload Image, then click Use Image. To remove the image, hover it and click the × in its corner.

Saving

Save becomes available once you change something. If a required value is missing, Fitora highlights it and shows Fix workout structure instead of saving. Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks you to confirm Discard.

If the same workout was saved elsewhere while you were editing, the editor shows This workout was modified elsewhere. Reload before saving again. Reloading loads the latest version and discards your unsaved edits.

Managing the Workouts library

Each row shows the workout’s image, name and number of exercises. Open a row’s menu to Duplicate the workout or Remove from Library. Removing a library workout does not affect copies already in programs or on client calendars.

Building a workout with Fitora AI

Describe the workout you want, or paste one you already have, and Fitora AI builds it with exercises from your library: sections, supersets, sets, and values such as reps, rest and weight.

  1. Click + Add Workout in your library, in a program, or on a day of a client’s calendar, and open the Fitora AI tab
  2. Optionally enter a Workout Name. Without one, Fitora AI names the workout
  3. In Workout Description, describe the workout, for example “45-minute upper body workout for an intermediate lifter with dumbbells”, or paste a workout to format, such as “Bench Press 5×8, Rows 4×10”. Click Try Sample to see an example
  4. Click Create Workout. Building takes about 15 seconds, and the workout is added where you clicked
  5. Click the new workout to review it in the workout editor and change anything you like

Fitora AI builds only with exercises from your library: Fitora’s popular exercises for the muscle groups the workout trains, and all of your own exercises for them. A pasted workout keeps its order, sets and values; each written exercise becomes the closest one from your library, so check the exercises in the editor.

Fitora AI workouts, Meal AI and the help assistant share one daily allowance per coach, which starts again at midnight UTC. An attempt that fails does not count. Fitora AI writes the workout’s name, description, section names and notes in English, whatever language you write in; exercise names stay as they are in your library.

Fitora AI gives you a starting point: check the exercises and loads before your client trains it.

Sections and supersets

Sections group exercises inside a workout and tell the client how to perform them. In the workout editor, click Add Section, enter a Section Name (required), choose a type and click Add Section. To reuse a saved section instead, switch to the Section Library tab and click it.

Section typeWhat it’s forSettings
RegularStraight sets: strength training, warm-ups, cooldowns and moreNone
IntervalFollow-along timed intervals, such as HIIT or TabataNumber of rounds. Each exercise’s first column is fixed to Duration, and the section’s total time is calculated from the rounds, sets, durations and rest
CircuitA set of exercises repeated for several roundsNumber of rounds
AMRAPAs many rounds as possible within a set timeDuration (required)

In a section’s header, click the name to rename it, use the arrow to collapse or expand it, and drag the handle to move it. Click Add block note for instructions that apply to the whole section, and Add Exercise to add exercises to it, or drag them in from the library panel.

The section’s menu offers Duplicate, Save to library, Ungroup all supersets (when it has any) and Delete block.

Creating a superset

  1. Place the exercises next to each other, either as standalone exercises or inside the same section
  2. Hover between the two exercises and click the link button, Link into superset
  3. Repeat to add more exercises to the same superset
  4. Optionally type a name; it shows Superset until you do

To separate a superset again, hover between two of its exercises and click Split superset here.

All exercises in a superset share one set count: linking sets them all to the highest count, and changing the sets of one changes them all. Interval sections cannot contain supersets.

Reusing sections

Save the sections you use often, such as a warm-up or a core finisher, and add them to any workout in one click.

Creating a library section

  1. Open Training in the sidebar and go to the Sections tab
  2. Click + Add Section
  3. Enter a Section Name, choose a Section Kind (Regular, Interval, Circuit or AMRAP) and click Add Section
  4. In the editor that opens, drag exercises from the list on the left into the section and set their sets and columns
  5. Click Save

You can also save a section straight from a workout: open the section’s menu and choose Save to library. The section needs a name and every required value first.

To use a saved section, click Add Section in the workout editor, switch to Section Library and click the section. It is copied into the workout, so later changes to the library version don’t affect it.

The Sections tab lists each section’s name, kind and number of exercises. Click a row to edit the section, or open its menu and choose Remove from Library to delete it.

Building a program

A program groups workouts. Choose its type when you create it, because it can’t be changed later.

  1. Open Training in the sidebar; the Programs tab opens first
  2. Click + Add Program
  3. Enter a Program Name (required) and an optional Program Description
  4. Choose the Program Type: Calendar or Fixed
  5. Click Add Program, then click the new program in the list to open it

To rename a program or change its description later, click the pencil icon in the program’s header.

Calendar programs

A Calendar program is laid out in weeks of seven days, numbered through the whole program: week 1 holds Day 1 to Day 7, and week 2 starts at Day 8. It uses day numbers instead of dates, so you can import it for any client from any start date. Each workout on a day shows its image, its name and how many exercises it has.

  1. Click Add Week to add a week at the end of the program
  2. Click a day to add a workout to it
  3. In Add Workout, create a workout on the New Workout tab, pick one from your library on the Workout Library tab, or have Fitora AI build one (see Building a workout with Fitora AI)
  4. Click the workout on the calendar to open it in the workout editor and add its exercises

Switch between Week view (one week at a time) and Month view (four weeks at a time), and page through the program with the arrows. To jump further, click the label between them, such as Month 1 of 3, enter a number and click Go. Each workout on the calendar has a menu:

  • Save to Library: save a copy to your Workouts library
  • Copy: copy the workout, then click any day to paste it there
  • Move: click another day to move the workout there
  • Delete: remove the workout from the program

Each week has its own actions: hover the strip with the week’s number, left of its days, to show them (on a narrow screen they are in the week’s menu). Add week after inserts an empty week right after it and moves the later weeks down by one; Clear week removes the week’s workouts and keeps the empty week; Delete week removes the week and its workouts, and the weeks after it move up by one.

An empty week at the end of a program is only kept once it holds a workout.

Fixed programs

A Fixed program is an ordered list of workouts. Click Add Workout to create a new workout or copy one from your library. Drag workouts by their handle to change the order; on a small screen, use the up and down arrows. Each workout’s menu offers Save to Library and Delete.

Duplicating and deleting programs

The Programs tab shows each program’s name, description and type. Open a row’s menu to Duplicate or Delete the program. Deleting a program removes it and its workouts from your library; clients who already received it keep their copy.

Scheduling workouts on a client’s calendar

For a client in Calendar mode, the Calendar view of their Training tab shows every scheduled workout. Use Today, the arrows and the month or week picker to move around, and switch between Month and Week view.

Importing a Calendar program

  1. Open Clients in the sidebar, open the client’s profile and go to the Training tab
  2. Click + Import Calendar
  3. Select a program under Program; only Calendar programs are listed
  4. Choose the Start Date
  5. Click Import Program

Day 1 lands on the start date, and every other workout keeps its place relative to it: Day 10 lands nine days later. Imported workouts are added alongside anything already on the calendar, and the client gets a New training program notification.

Adding a single workout

  1. Click a date on the client’s calendar
  2. Create a workout on the New Workout tab, pick one on the Workout Library tab, or have Fitora AI build one
  3. Click the workout on the calendar to add or adjust its exercises

The client gets a New workout notification when you add a workout to their calendar.

Working with scheduled workouts

A workout card shows the workout’s image, name and number of exercises, and is marked In progress while the client is doing it and Completed once they have finished it. Click a workout the client hasn’t done yet to change it in the workout editor; click a completed one to open its summary (see Reviewing completed workouts).

The card’s menu offers Save to Library, Copy (then click a date to paste), Move (then click a date) and Delete.

Once a client has completed a workout, it can no longer be moved or deleted, so their logged results stay intact.

Assigning Fixed programs

For a client in Fixed mode, the Programs view of their Training tab lists their programs and the number of workouts in each. A client can have several Fixed programs at once.

  1. Open Clients in the sidebar, open the client’s profile and go to the Training tab
  2. Click + Add Program
  3. On the Program Library tab, select one of your Fixed programs and click Import Program; or, on the New Program tab, enter a Program Name and click Add Program to build one just for this client
  4. Click the program in the list to open it

Importing from the library copies the program and its workouts to the client and sends them a New training program notification. Inside the client’s program, click Add Workout to add workouts, drag them to reorder, and click one to edit it.

Each program’s menu offers Save To Library, Duplicate and Delete.

Tailored a program for one client and want to reuse it? Save To Library turns their version into a new template on your Programs tab.

Click Update to save. The Calendar Settings tab is only available while the client is in Calendar mode.

Clearing a client’s calendar

In Calendar mode, Clear Calendar at the bottom of Training Settings permanently deletes every calendar workout the client hasn’t completed. Completed workouts and their results stay. This can’t be undone.

How clients track workouts

Clients see their training on the Training tab of the Fitora app, and today’s workouts on the home screen.

What the client sees

In Calendar mode, a Current Week card shows the days from Monday to Sunday. Tapping a day lists its workouts, each marked PLANNED, IN PROGRESS, COMPLETED or MISSED (planned for a date that has passed). A Training Progress card shows how many of the week’s workouts are done and the Next Session, and View All lists every workout the client can see, split into Previous and Upcoming.

In Fixed mode, each assigned program appears as a card with its number of workouts. Tapping a program opens its workouts, and the client can swipe between them and start any one. A Fixed-program workout can be done again after it has been completed.

Calendar visibility limits how far ahead the client sees, counted from Monday of the current week: Current Week ends that Sunday, 2 Weeks and 4 Weeks add one or three more weeks, and All has no limit. Past workouts always stay visible.

Starting a workout

Tapping a workout opens a preview with its image, sections and exercises. Tapping an exercise shows its demo video, your targets and your note for it. The client taps Start Workout to begin.

Only one workout can run at a time. If another workout is in progress, the client is asked to complete or dismiss it first.

Logging sets

The tracker shows one page per section, with arrows to move between pages and the elapsed time in the header. For each exercise, the client sees your targets and a table of sets, enters what they did and ticks each set. Their numbers from the previous session appear as grey hints, and ticking a set with empty fields accepts those hints. They can also Add Set or Delete Set.

Clients record the numeric columns you prescribed, such as reps, weight, time or distance. Rest drives their rest timer, and Tempo, RPE and RIR are shown as targets rather than recorded. Clients can’t change which columns are tracked.

When a ticked set beats the client’s previous best, a New Record message appears straight away.

Rest timer

Ticking a set that has a Rest value starts the rest timer automatically. The client can take off or add 10 seconds, pause, cancel, or shrink the timer to a small pill. It beeps for the last three seconds, and if the app is in the background when the rest ends, the phone shows a Rest Time’s Up! notification. The timer icon in the header starts a timer by hand.

Interval, Circuit and AMRAP sections

Each of these sections opens with a Preview of its exercises and targets, and the client taps Start Section.

  • Circuit: the client fills in each round and taps Complete Round until all rounds are done
  • AMRAP: a countdown runs while the client logs rounds with Complete Round; at zero, Time’s Up! shows how many rounds they completed
  • Interval: a follow-along timer with each exercise’s video, a Rest Period screen showing what’s UP NEXT, and pause, previous and next controls; nothing is logged set by set

When a section ends, Section Complete! shows its rounds and duration.

Swapping an exercise and leaving comments

From an exercise’s ... menu, the client can:

  • Swap Exercise: choose a replacement. Your alternatives come first, marked Suggested, followed by the built-in library and your own exercises, with Muscle and Equipment filters. The sets and columns stay the same; only the exercise changes.
  • Leave Comment: write a comment on that exercise, which you see with the exercise in the workout summary

Leaving and resuming

A workout in progress is kept on the client’s phone until they finish it. If they minimise it, switch apps or close the app, a bar above the bottom navigation shows the workout’s progress, and tapping it resumes where they left off. The red cancel icon in the tracker discards the workout after a confirmation.

You see the results once the client finishes the workout. Finishing needs an internet connection; if saving fails, the workout stays on the phone so they can try again.

Finishing a workout

  1. On the last page, Review Workout, the client picks a Rate Difficulty option: Okay, Good, Fun, Great or Amazing
  2. They add an optional Workout Comment
  3. They tap Finish

A difficulty rating is required, and every set needs its values before the workout can be finished, so clients delete any sets they didn’t do.

The workout summary then opens, with Sets, Volume, Reps, any New Record and their comment, and you get a Workout completed notification. Clients find past summaries and their exercise history behind the history icon on the Training tab, under Workouts and Exercises. Completed workouts can’t be edited or deleted.

Rescheduling from the app

When Can client reschedule workouts to different dates? is on, a reschedule icon appears on calendar workouts the client hasn’t started. They pick a new Workout date and tap Save date.

Reviewing completed workouts

When a client finishes a workout, you get a Workout completed notification. Click it to open the workout’s summary.

The Completed Workouts view of the client’s Training tab lists every finished session with the workout name and date, the client’s Difficulty rating, and a Note marker when they left a note. Click a row to open the summary.

Part of the summaryWhat it shows
HeaderThe workout’s name, how long the session took, and the date
StatsSets, Volume, Reps and New Record (personal records set in the session)
NoteThe client’s note about the session
ActivityThe client’s difficulty rating, then every section and exercise with each set they logged

From the summary you can open any exercise’s history, to compare the session with earlier ones. The Training card on the client’s Overview tab shows how many days they trained this week and their last workout.

Exercise history and personal records

The Exercise History view lists every exercise the client has logged, with the date they last did it. Search by name and click an exercise to see:

  • Performance: the number of Sessions, plus the client’s best and average values, such as Best 1RM or Best Volume
  • A chart for each logged value with its average, over 1M, 3M, 6M or 1Y
  • Every session in which they did the exercise, with each set they logged; click a session to open its summary

While editing a workout on a client’s calendar or Fixed program, click the history icon on an exercise to see what the client did last time before you set new targets.

Personal records

Fitora detects personal records automatically when a client completes a workout, by comparing each exercise with the client’s best result before that session.

RecordHow it’s measured
WeightThe heaviest weight in any set
RepsThe most reps in any set
1RMEstimated one-rep max, weight × (1 + reps / 30); a single rep counts as the weight itself
VolumeWeight × reps, added up across the session
Time, Duration, Distance, Speed, Cadence, RPM, Height, Calories, RoundThe highest value in the session

The first session with an exercise never counts as a record, because there is nothing to beat yet. RPE, RIR, Rest and Tempo never produce records, and 1RM and Volume are only calculated when the exercise has both Weight and Reps columns.

Training statistics

The Statistics view summarises a client’s training over a period. Choose 30 days, 90 days, Custom (pick the dates) or All time in the top-right corner.

CardWhat it shows
Heat MapA body figure, Front or Back, shaded from Less to More by the sets each muscle group received
Muscle GroupsSets and share of the total for Chest, Back, Shoulders, Biceps, Triceps, Forearms, Core, Quads, Hamstrings, Glutes and Calves. Click a group to see the exercises behind it, marked P (primary) or S (secondary)

Workout calendarA month with training days outlined, and the week streak: consecutive weeks with at least one completed workout. Click a day to see its workouts
Daily Sets, Weekly Sets or Monthly SetsSets over time, split into Upper, Lower and Core, with the average per day, week or month

A logged set counts as one full set for the exercise’s main muscle group and half a set for each secondary muscle group, and each group is counted once per exercise.

Copying, saving and deleting

Most training items can be copied or saved back to your library from their menu. Copies are always independent: changing or deleting the original never changes a copy.

Frequently asked questions

Do changes to a library workout or program update clients who already have it?
No. Fitora copies a workout or program when you add it to a program or a client, so every copy is independent. Edit the client’s copy on their Training tab, or give them the updated version again.
Can I change a program from Calendar to Fixed?
No. A program’s type is set when you create it. Create a new program of the other type and add the workouts from your library; you can save any program workout to the library from its menu first.
Can clients reschedule a workout?
In Calendar mode, if you turn on Can client reschedule workouts to different dates? in the client’s Training Settings. They can then move calendar workouts they haven’t started to another date.
Can clients swap an exercise?
Yes. From the exercise’s menu they tap Swap Exercise and choose one of your alternatives or another exercise from the library. The sets and columns you prescribed stay the same.
What happens if a client closes the app mid-workout?
The workout stays on their phone, and a bar above the bottom navigation lets them resume where they left off. You see the results once they finish it.
How are personal records detected?
When a client completes a workout, Fitora compares each exercise with their best result before that session, for values such as weight, reps, estimated 1RM and volume. The first session with an exercise never counts, because there is nothing to beat yet.
Can I edit a workout after the client has completed it?
No. A completed workout opens as a read-only summary and can’t be moved or deleted. You can still change any workout the client hasn’t done yet.
Can I set different targets for each set?
Each exercise has one row of targets, but text columns such as Reps accept one value per set, for example 12, 10, 8. You can also explain the plan in the exercise’s note.
Can a client repeat a workout?
Workouts in a Fixed program can be started again after they have been completed. A completed calendar workout opens its summary instead, so add the workout to another day to repeat it.
What video can I add to my own exercises?
A YouTube link, or an uploaded MP4, WebM or MOV video file up to 100 MB. Use a YouTube link for longer demos.
