Nutrition

Build meal plans, set macro targets for each client, and review what clients log in the app.

Nutrition overview

Fitora’s nutrition tools cover three things: meal plans you build and assign, macro targets you set for each client, and the food log clients keep in the Fitora app. Open Nutrition in the sidebar (under Library) to build your library. The page has three tabs:

TabWhat it holds
PlansYour plan templates. Each plan is a day of eating made of meal blocks, with optional alternatives in every block.
Library MealsReusable meals with ingredients, servings, instructions and a photo, ready to add to any plan.
Library FoodsYour own foods with a serving size and calories, protein, carbs and fat, used as ingredients in meals.

Each client’s profile has its own Nutrition tab with two views:

ViewWhat it shows
Meal PlansThe plans assigned to this client. You can create a plan just for them or import one from your library.
Nutrition LoggerThe client’s food log week by week, plus the buttons for their Macros Target and Daily Meals.

In the client app, Nutrition is one of the tabs in the bottom bar. It has a Log Food view for the daily food log and a Meal Plans view for the plans you assign.

Plans and targets are separate. A plan tells the client what to eat; the macros target is the daily goal their food log is measured against. Assigning a plan does not set a target, so set both when you want the client to follow a plan and track against numbers.

Only Owner and Admin coaches can create or change plans, meals and foods in the library. Standard coaches can still build, edit and assign plans for the clients they work with. See Team.

Meal plans

A meal plan is one day of eating. It is made of blocks, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner, and each block holds one or more meal options. When a block has more than one option, the client can choose between them in the app.

Every meal option has its own ingredients with amounts, the number of servings the recipe makes (Servings), and how many of those servings the client should eat (Assigned Servings). Calories and macros are calculated from the ingredients, so you never type totals for a meal.

Creating a plan

  1. Open Nutrition in the sidebar and stay on the Plans tab
  2. Click + Add Plan at the top right
  3. Enter a Plan Name, for example “2000kcal Plan” (required)
  4. Optionally add a Plan Description with guidance for the client
  5. Click Add Plan. The plan appears in the list
  6. Click the plan to open it, then click + Add Meal to add the first block

The Plans list shows each plan’s name, its type (Meal Plan) and its calories. Click a row to open the plan, or use the row menu to Edit its name and description, Duplicate it, or Delete it.

Working with blocks

  • Reorder: drag a block by the handle on its left to move it up or down the day
  • Add Alternative: from the block’s menu, add another meal option to the block. Options appear as tabs, Option 1, Option 2 and so on
  • Rename Block: a new block is named after the meal you added; rename it, for example to “Breakfast” or “Meal 1”, in the Block Name field
  • Delete Block: removes the block and all its meal options, after you confirm

At the top of the plan, a totals card shows the day’s calories and the grams and share of carbs, protein and fat. The totals use the option currently shown in each block, multiplied by its assigned servings, so switching an option tab updates the totals.

To change the plan name or description later, click the pencil icon next to + Add Meal in the plan header.

Build a plan once and reuse it: Duplicate makes a copy with “(Copy)” added to its name, which you can adjust for a different calorie level.

Adding meals to a plan

Clicking + Add Meal in a plan, or Add Alternative in a block’s menu, opens the Add Meal dialog. It has four tabs:

TabWhat it does
Your LibraryLists your library meals with their macros and calories. Search by name or filter by category (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack). Click a meal to add it.
Fitora RecipesFitora’s built-in recipes, with search, filters and sorting. Click a recipe to add it. See Fitora Recipes below.
Meal AIBuilds a whole meal, with its ingredients and macros, from a description. See Building a meal with Meal AI below.
Create NewStarts an empty meal. Enter a Meal Name (required) and an optional Meal Description, then click Add Meal. You add the ingredients afterwards in the meal editor.
  1. Open the plan and click + Add Meal
  2. Choose a tab: Your Library, Fitora Recipes, Meal AI or Create New
  3. Click a meal or recipe, describe a meal on Meal AI and click Generate Meal, or fill in Create New and click Add Meal
  4. The meal is added as a new block, with 1 assigned serving
  5. Click the meal in the block to open the meal editor and adjust its ingredients, servings and assigned servings
  6. Repeat for every meal of the day, then drag the blocks into order

A meal added to a plan is a copy. Editing it inside the plan changes only that plan, and later changes to the library meal or recipe do not reach plans that already use it.

Building a meal with Meal AI

Describe the meal you want and Meal AI builds it with its ingredients, amounts, macros and preparation steps. It saves the meal where you opened Add Meal: as a new block or an alternative in the plan, or in Library Meals.

  1. Click + Add Meal in a plan, Add Alternative in a block’s menu, or + Add Library Meal on the Library Meals tab, and open the Meal AI tab
  2. Describe the meal under Meal, for example “30 grams of chicken with lettuce” or “a high-protein vegetarian breakfast”
  3. Optionally enter Allergies or a diet, for example “nuts / vegan”. Meal AI leaves out every ingredient they rule out
  4. Click Generate Meal. Building takes a few seconds, and the dialog stays open until the meal is saved

Each ingredient has its own unit, such as grams, slices or tablespoons, with the calories and macros of its amount. Change an amount in the meal editor and its macros scale with it. Meal AI also names the meal and picks its categories; the name, description and steps are always in English.

Meal AI, Fitora AI workouts and the help assistant share one daily allowance per coach, which starts again at midnight UTC. An attempt that fails does not count.

The macros are Meal AI’s estimates from standard nutrition data: check the ingredients and amounts before you assign the meal.

Editing a meal

Click a meal in a plan block, or a row on the Library Meals tab, to open the meal editor. On a wide screen the food library sits on the left and the meal on the right.

  • Photo: click the image square next to the name to upload a meal photo, or click Generate under it to have Fitora AI draw one from the meal’s name, description and ingredients. A drawn photo replaces the current one only when you click Save Changes, and each coach can draw 10 a day, until midnight UTC. Clients see the photo on the meal in their app
  • Meal name, with a short description under it
  • Servings: how many servings the recipe makes. The calories and macros in the summary are per serving
  • Assigned Servings: how many of those servings the client should eat, shown as “of” the total. The line under it shows the calories and macros for the assigned amount
  • Ingredients and Instructions: two tabs, for the food list and the cooking steps

Adding ingredients

  1. In the panel on the left, choose Your Library (your library foods) or Food Catalog (a searchable food catalog)
  2. Search for a food, for example “chicken”
  3. Click the plus button next to a food to add it to the meal
  4. Change the amount in the ingredient row. The unit comes from the food, and the macros scale with the amount
  5. Drag ingredients by their handle to reorder them

On a small screen, tap Add ingredients to show the food library.

Click the pencil icon on an ingredient to open Edit Ingredient, where you can change its Name, add a Description (for example “cooked weight”) and click Update, or remove it from the meal with Delete.

Need a food that is not in your library? On the Your Library tab, click New to create a library food without leaving the editor. It is saved to Library Foods and added to the meal.

Instructions

On the Instructions tab, write the cooking steps. Put each step on its own line: the client app shows every line as a numbered step under Cooking Instructions.

Saving

  • Save Changes saves the meal
  • Delete option (plans only) removes this meal option from its block. If it is the block’s last option, the block is removed too
  • The bookmark icon next to the meal name (plans only) saves a copy of the meal to Library Meals
  • Category (library meals only) tags the meal as Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snack

Fitora Recipes

Fitora Recipes is a built-in collection of recipes, each with ingredients, macros per serving, a photo and cooking instructions. You find it as a tab in a plan’s Add Meal dialog.

Searching and filtering

  • Search: type a recipe name in the search field
  • Categories: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, Side, Dessert, Smoothie/Shake, Pre-workout and Post-workout. Click a category to show only its recipes; click it again to clear it
  • Filters: combine options from four groups (below). A badge shows how many filters are on
  • Sort: Popular (the default), Cal: Low - High, Cal: High - Low or Most Protein
Filter groupOptions
DietVegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free, Dairy free, Keto, Paleo, High protein, Low carb, Low calorie, Low fat, Low sugar, High fiber, High fat, Nut free, Pescatarian
DifficultyEasy, Medium, Hard
CuisineAmerican, Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern, British, Other
TagsQuick, One pot, No cook, Bulk friendly, Cut friendly

Using a recipe

  1. Open a plan and click + Add Meal (or Add Alternative in a block)
  2. Open the Fitora Recipes tab and find a recipe
  3. Click the recipe. It is added to the plan as its own copy
  4. Click it in the block to adjust its ingredients, servings or photo
  5. To reuse it in other plans, click the bookmark icon in the meal editor to save it to Library Meals

Library meals

The Library Meals tab holds the meals you reuse across plans. The list shows each meal’s photo and name, its categories, its carbs, protein and fats per serving, and its calories.

Creating a library meal

  1. Open Nutrition in the sidebar and go to the Library Meals tab
  2. Click + Add Library Meal
  3. On the Create New tab, enter a Meal Name and an optional Meal Description, then click Add Meal
  4. Click the new meal in the list to open the meal editor
  5. Add ingredients, set Servings, write the Instructions, upload a photo and pick a Category
  6. Click Save Changes

On the Your Library tab of the same dialog, click an existing meal to create a copy of it as a starting point, or describe one on the Meal AI tab to have it built with its ingredients (see Building a meal with Meal AI).

Use the row menu to Duplicate a meal or Delete it. Deleting asks you to confirm with Delete library meal.

Meals also reach your library from plans: open any meal in a plan, including one added from Fitora Recipes, and click the bookmark icon to save a copy.

Library foods

The Library Foods tab holds your own foods: items you use often, branded products, or anything you want with exact numbers. Library foods are ingredients for your meals; you add them in the meal editor from the Your Library tab.

Creating a food

  1. Open Nutrition in the sidebar and go to the Library Foods tab
  2. Click + Add Library Food
  3. Enter the Food Name (required)
  4. Enter the Serving Size (required, above zero) and choose the Serving Unit
  5. Enter Calories, Protein (g), Carbs (g) and Fat (g) for that serving
  6. Optionally add Notes
  7. Check the macro preview, then click Add Food

Serving units: grams, ounces, oz, cups, qty, scoops, tsp, tbsp, ml and slices.

Calories are not calculated from the macros, so enter them from the label. Values cannot be negative.

Click a food, or choose Edit in its row menu, to change it in Edit Library Food, then click Save. Delete removes it after you confirm with Delete food.

Meals keep their own copy of each ingredient. Editing or deleting a library food does not change meals or plans that already use it.

Assigning plans to clients

Clients get the plans on the Meal Plans view of their profile. You can create a plan just for one client, or import a template from your Plans library.

  1. Open Clients in the sidebar and click the client
  2. Open the Nutrition tab. Meal Plans is selected
  3. Click + New Meal Plan
  4. To start from your library, open the Nutrition Library tab, search if needed, select a plan and click Import Plan
  5. To start from scratch, stay on New Plan, enter a Plan name and an optional Description, and click Add Plan
  6. Click the plan in the list to open it and add or change meals, exactly as in the library

Importing makes a copy for this client. Changes you make to the client’s plan stay with that client, and later changes to the library template do not reach plans you already assigned.

When you import a plan from your library, the client gets a “New nutrition plan” notification. The plan shows in the Meal Plans view of their app.

A client can have several plans, for example different plans for different phases. In the app they switch between them.

Managing a client’s plans

ActionWhat it does
EditChanges the plan’s name and description
DuplicateMakes another copy for the same client
Save to libraryCopies the plan to your Plans library so you can reuse it for other clients
DeleteDeletes the plan after you confirm. Food the client already logged from it stays in their log

Macro targets

The macros target is the client’s daily goal for calories, protein, carbs and fat. It drives the eaten, left and goal summary in the client’s food log, the goal line and Goal column in your Nutrition Logger, and nutrition challenges that count target days. Each client has one target, set for the client rather than for a plan, so a shared plan can sit alongside personal numbers.

Setting a target

  1. Open the client’s Nutrition tab and switch to Nutrition Logger
  2. Click Macros Target
  3. Under Macros Target Type, choose Daily (the same target every day) or Rest Days (a second target for the weekdays you choose)
  4. Enter Carbs, Protein, Fats and Calories. All four are required
  5. Check the ring next to the fields: it shows the calories and how they split between the macros
  6. Click Save Target

Calories are entered, not calculated. Protein and carbs give about 4 kcal per gram and fat about 9, so a target of 150 g protein, 200 g carbs and 60 g fat is roughly 1940 kcal.

Rest-day targets

  1. In Macros Target, choose Rest Days
  2. Enter the training-day target in Carbs, Protein, Fats and Calories
  3. Enter the rest-day target in Rest Day Carbs, Rest Day Protein, Rest Day Fats and Rest Day Calories
  4. Under Rest Days:, tick the weekdays that are rest days (at least one)
  5. Click Save Target

The client does not switch anything: on the weekdays you ticked, their log uses the rest-day target, and on every other day the main target.

To change a target, open Macros Target again, edit the numbers and save; the new values replace the old ones. To remove it, click Remove target and confirm. Without a target, the client’s log shows their calories and macro split with no goal.

Daily meals

Daily meals are the sections of the client’s food log. Every client starts with Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks, and you can change them for each client.

  1. Open the client’s Nutrition tab and switch to Nutrition Logger
  2. Click Daily Meals
  3. Rename a meal by typing over its name, remove one with its x button, or drag meals by their handle to reorder them
  4. Click Add Meal to add another meal
  5. Click Save Meals

A client has between 1 and 10 daily meals. Names can be up to 50 characters and must be unique; the dialog lists any names that repeat.

Changes apply to the client’s log from today onward. Foods already logged keep the meal name they were logged under: in the client app that section is marked “Older meal”, and in your day view “No longer one of the client’s meals”.

The client picks one of these meals whenever they log a food or a plan meal.

Reviewing client food logs

The Nutrition Logger view on the client’s Nutrition tab shows one week at a time, Monday to Sunday. Use the arrows to move between weeks, or click the week to pick another one.

CardWhat it shows
Macros chartA bar for each day. With Metric set to Calories, each bar is split into protein, carbs and fat; choose Protein, Carbs or Fat to see the grams of one macro. A line marks the goal when the client has a target. Under the chart, a table shows the Daily avg, Total and Goal for protein, carbs, fat and calories
Weekly LogA ring for each day with its date, and how many days of the week have food logged. The ring fills with the share of that day’s calorie goal the client ate. A speech-bubble badge means the client left a note; hover a day to see its calories and note
MicronutrientsThe weekly average and total for fiber, sugar, sodium, potassium, and saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat

Averages count only days with food logged, so an unlogged day does not pull the average down. The Goal column and the goal line use the latest target in the week; with rest-day targets, open a day to see its own goal.

Opening a day

Click a bar in the chart or a day in Weekly Log to open that day:

  • Calories Eaten, the Goal, and how many are left or over, in a ring
  • Carbs, protein and fat against their targets, with progress bars
  • The client’s Note for the day, if they wrote one
  • Each daily meal with every food logged: the serving, carbs, protein, fat and calories, and a Total for the meal

The client’s Overview tab also has a Nutrition card with this week’s calories per day and the daily average. Click a day with food logged to open it.

Food entries and day notes come from the client’s app; the Nutrition Logger is where you review them.

What clients see: Log Food

In the client app, clients tap Nutrition in the bottom bar and open Log Food. The screen shows one day at a time.

  • Day bar: arrows for the previous and next day, and the date, which opens a date picker so clients can log any day. The note icon on the left opens the day note, and the three-dot button on the right opens the day options
  • Summary: with a macros target, the calories eaten, left and goal in a ring, and bars for carbs, fat and protein against their goals. Without a target, the calories and the percentage split between carbs, fat and protein
  • Meal sections: one for each daily meal, with its carbs, fat and protein, every logged food with its serving and calories, and the meal’s calorie total

How clients log food

  1. Tap Add Food under a meal. The meal is preselected; tap its name at the top to change it
  2. Search the list, or switch between All, My Meals and My Foods
  3. Tap the plus button on a row to log it straight away (a food uses its default serving)
  4. Or tap the row to choose the Serving Size, the Number of Servings (in half-serving steps) and the Meal, check the calories and macros, and tap the check button
TabWhat clients find there
AllHistory: foods they logged before, ready to log again (swipe one left to remove it from history). Suggestions: suggested foods ready to log
My MealsMeals they saved, each with its foods and calories. Tapping a meal shows its foods, and the check button logs the whole meal
My FoodsFoods they created, with their serving and calories

Changing a logged food

Tapping a logged food opens its Serving Size, Number of Servings and Meal, so clients can fix the amount or move it to another meal; Show Nutrition Facts lists every nutrient. Swiping a food to the left shows Delete.

Day options and notes

OptionWhat it does
Macros BreakdownThe day’s calories, the grams and share of carbs, fat and protein, other nutrients, and the fat profile
Copy Previous DayReplaces the day’s entries with everything logged the day before
Reset Day LogRemoves every food entry and the note for the day, after the client confirms

The note icon opens Day note, where clients write a note for that day and tap Add Note (or Update Note). You see the note in the Nutrition Logger.

Clients who often eat the same combination can open a meal section’s three-dot menu, tap Save to Meals, give it a name under Name Your Meal and tap Add. The foods in that section become a meal on their My Meals tab.

Clients’ own foods and meals

Clients can create their own foods and meals in the app, for anything they eat that is not already in their history or plan.

Creating a food

  1. In Add Food, open My Foods and tap New Food
  2. Enter a Name, a Serving size (free text, for example “1 cup” or “100 grams”) and the Calories
  3. Under Nutrition Facts, enter Protein, Carbs and Fat (required)
  4. Optionally enter Fiber, Sugar, Sodium, Potassium, Saturated Fat, Polyunsaturated Fat and Monounsaturated Fat
  5. Tap Save

Clients can change their foods later by tapping the food and then Edit. Swiping left shows Delete.

Creating a meal

  1. In Add Food, open My Meals and tap New Meal
  2. Enter a Name
  3. Tap Add food and pick foods from All or My Foods
  4. Tap a food in the list to set its Serving Size and Number of Servings, or tap Remove food
  5. Tap Save once the meal has a name and at least one food

From a meal’s preview, Edit Meal opens the same builder.

What clients see: Meal Plans

The Meal Plans view in the client app shows the plans you assigned:

  • A summary card with the plan name, its calories, and the grams and share of carbs, fat and protein
  • A note icon that opens the plan’s Description, when the plan has one
  • A switch icon that opens Meal Plans to pick another plan, when the client has more than one
  • A card for each block, with the block name and the meal’s photo, name, macros and calories

When a block has alternatives, the client taps the switch icon on its card, picks an option in Meal Options and taps Switch Meal.

Logging a plan meal

  1. Tap the plus button on a meal card, or open the meal and tap Log Meal
  2. Adjust the Servings if needed. They start at the assigned servings and go up to the servings the recipe makes, in half-serving steps
  3. Choose the daily meal to log it under
  4. Tap Log Meal

Each ingredient of the meal is added to the food log as its own entry, so you see exactly what was eaten.

The meal page

Tapping a meal opens its page: the photo and name, the calories and macro rings, Log Meal, the meal description, the Ingredients, and the Cooking Instructions as numbered steps.

Until you assign a plan, the view shows No Nutrition with a message that the coach has not assigned a meal plan yet. The Log Food view works without a plan.

Nutrition challenges

Food logged in the client app also counts toward nutrition challenges. There are three nutrition challenge types:

TypeA day counts when
Total Days LoggedThe client logged at least one food that day
Calorie Target DaysThe calories logged that day reach the day’s calorie target
Protein Target DaysThe protein logged that day reaches the day’s protein target

Target days need a macros target, so a client without one cannot score them. With rest-day targets, each day is measured against its own target. See Challenges.

Editing and deleting

When you…What happens
Edit a plan in PlansPlans already assigned to clients do not change; they are copies
Delete a plan in PlansThe copies assigned to clients stay
Edit or delete a client’s planOnly that client’s plan changes. Food they already logged from it stays in their log
Edit a library mealPlans that already contain the meal keep their own copy
Edit or delete a library foodMeals and plans that already use it keep their own copy
Change a client’s daily mealsApplies from today onward; logged foods keep their meal name
Remove a client’s macros targetTheir log shows totals without a goal until you set a new one

Deleting a plan from the Plans list happens right away, without a confirmation step.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a meal plan and a macros target?
A meal plan tells the client what to eat. The macros target is the daily goal their food log is measured against, set with Macros Target in the client’s Nutrition Logger. Assigning a plan does not set a target, so set both if you want both.
Why don’t my client’s targets show in their app?
Targets come only from Macros Target on the client’s Nutrition Logger view. Check that a target is saved there; plan totals are not used as a goal.
How do rest-day targets work?
Choose Rest Days in Macros Target, enter a second set of numbers and tick the rest weekdays. The client’s log uses the rest-day target on those weekdays and the main target on the others, with nothing to switch.
Can clients log food for earlier days?
Yes. In Log Food they move between days with the arrows, or tap the date to pick any day, and log as usual.
How many daily meals can a client have?
Between 1 and 10. Every client starts with Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks; change them for each client with Daily Meals in the Nutrition Logger.
If I change a plan template, do my clients’ plans update?
No. Assigning makes a copy for the client. Edit the client’s own plan from their Nutrition tab, or import the updated template again.
Can I give a client more than one plan?
Yes. Add as many as you need on their Meal Plans view; in the app the client switches between plans from the plan card.
Can clients choose between meal options?
Yes. Add alternatives to a block with Add Alternative. In the app the client taps the switch icon on that meal and picks another option.
Does logged food count toward challenges?
Yes. Nutrition challenges count days with food logged, or days that reach the calorie or protein target. Target days need a macros target.
Which Fitora plan includes nutrition?
Meal plans, macro targets, your own foods and meals, the food catalog search and the in-app food log are included on every plan.
