Community overview

Communities are private spaces where your clients and coaches share updates, celebrate wins, answer polls and talk to each other between sessions. Each community has its own feed of posts, its own members, pinned posts and settings. Clients see only the communities they are members of.

The Community page in the sidebar lists the communities in your workspace, with each one’s cover image, name and number of members. From here you can:

  • Open a community by clicking its row
  • Create a community with + Add Community (owners and admins)
  • Edit or delete a community from the three-dot menu on its row (owners and admins)

Owners and admins see every community in the workspace. Standard coaches see only the communities they are members of. Community comes with the Studio plan.

Inside a community, the header shows the cover image, the name, the member count and a row of member photos. Four tabs sit below it:

TabWhat it shows
DiscussionThe post composer, the pinned posts and the feed of published posts, newest first
PinnedEvery pinned post, shown in full with its comments
PlannerScheduled posts and your drafts
MembersA searchable list of the community’s members and the date each one joined

Next to the tabs are the search button (Search posts) and a three-dot menu with Edit Community and Community Settings (owners and admins) and Notification Settings (members). Owners and admins also see a Manage Access button beside the community name. On wide screens, an About card on the right shows the description, the member count and the date the community was created.

Creating a community

  1. Open Community in the sidebar
  2. Click + Add Community
  3. Optionally click Add cover on the image area and choose an image
  4. Enter a Community Name (required, up to 50 characters)
  5. Optionally enter a Community Description (up to 500 characters) so members know what the community is for
  6. Click Create Community

The new community opens straight away, and you are its first member. Next, add members with Manage Access and write the first post.

Without a cover image, the community shows a soft color gradient. You can add or change the cover at any time.

Editing a community

Owners and admins can change a community’s cover image, name and description at any time.

From the community list

  1. On the Community page, click the three-dot menu on the community’s row
  2. Select Edit
  3. Change the cover with Change or Remove, or edit the Community Name or Community Description
  4. Click Update Community

From inside a community

  1. Open the community
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the tabs
  3. Select Edit Community
  4. Make your changes and click Update Community

Deleting a community

  1. On the Community page, click the three-dot menu on the community’s row
  2. Select Delete
  3. Confirm with Delete community

Deleting a community removes it, with all its posts and comments, for every member. This cannot be undone.

Managing members

Members are the clients and coaches who can see a community and take part in it. Owners and admins add and remove them.

Adding members

  1. Open the community
  2. Click Manage Access
  3. In the Manage Community Members window, the left side lists the workspace’s active clients and its coaches who are not members yet. Coaches are marked Team. Use Search clients and coaches to narrow the list
  4. Tick the people you want to add, or tick Select All
  5. Click Add Members

Each client you add gets a notification that you added them, and tapping it opens the community in their app. Coaches you add are not notified.

Removing members

  1. In Manage Community Members, tick the people to remove on the right side, under Members, or tick Select All there
  2. Click Remove

You can also remove one person from the Members tab: open the three-dot menu on their row and select Remove.

The workspace owner is marked Owner and cannot be removed. Someone you remove loses access to the community straight away.

The Members tab

The Members tab shows how many members the community has and lists them with their photo, a Coach badge next to coaches, and the date they joined. Use Find a member to search by name.

Creating posts

Posts are the heart of a community. A post can hold text, photos, videos and GIFs, or a poll.

  1. Open the community on the Discussion tab
  2. Click What’s on your mind?, or one of the buttons under it
  3. In the Create Post window, write your post in Write something...
  4. Add media or a poll with the buttons at the bottom (see the table below)
  5. Click Publish to post straight away
ButtonWhat it adds
PhotosImages in JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF format, up to 50 MB each
VideoVideos in MP4, WEBM or MOV format, up to 250 MB each
GIFA GIF picked from the built-in GIF search
PollA poll with 2 to 5 options (see Polls)
EmojiAn emoji where the cursor is

A post can have up to 5,000 characters of text and up to 10 photos, videos and GIFs in total. A post carries either media or a poll, not both. Publish waits until every upload has finished.

A published post goes to the top of the feed, and every member who has New Posts notifications on is notified.

Mentioning members

Type @ in a post or comment and pick a member from the suggestions. The name shows in the text, and the person you mentioned is notified, if they have Mentions notifications on. You can only mention members of the community, up to 50 people in one post or comment.

A mentioned member gets the mention notification instead of the new-post one, so nobody is notified twice about the same post.

Saving drafts and scheduling posts

Coaches can keep a post for later or have it go out at a set time. Click the arrow next to Publish for the options:

OptionWhat it does
PublishPosts it to the feed now
Save draftKeeps it in the Planner as a private draft
Schedule postPublishes it automatically at the date and time you choose

Saving a draft

  1. Write the post in Create Post
  2. Click the arrow next to Publish
  3. Select Save draft

Drafts are private: only the coach who wrote a draft can see it, edit it or publish it.

Scheduling a post

  1. Write the post in Create Post
  2. Click the arrow next to Publish and select Schedule post
  3. Pick a Date and a Time, or click In an hour. The window shows which time zone the times are in
  4. Click OK. The chosen time appears next to the main button, which now reads Schedule
  5. Click Schedule

Fitora publishes the post within a minute of the chosen time and notifies members then, exactly as if you had clicked Publish. To post now instead, click the × on the chosen time before you click the button.

The scheduled time must be in the future. Drafts and scheduling are for coaches; clients’ posts are published straight away.

The Planner tab

The Planner tab gathers everything that is waiting to be published. Switch between the two views at the top:

  • Scheduled: posts with a publish time, the earliest first. Each card shows “Publishes” with the date and time it will go out
  • Drafts: your drafts, the most recently edited first

The count next to each view shows how many posts it holds. Each card previews the post and has a three-dot menu:

ActionWhat it does
EditOpens the post to change its text, media, poll or schedule
Publish NowPublishes the post to the feed immediately and notifies members
DeleteDeletes the draft or scheduled post

Owners and admins see every coach’s scheduled posts in the Planner; standard coaches see their own. Drafts are always visible only to the coach who wrote them. Clients never see the Planner.

Editing and deleting posts

Editing a post

  1. Click the three-dot menu on a post you wrote
  2. Select Edit Post
  3. Change the text, add or remove photos, videos and GIFs, or adjust the poll
  4. Click Save

Members see the new version straight away. You can edit only your own posts. A poll’s options can be changed until the first vote comes in; after that they are locked, and only the text around them can change.

Deleting a post

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the post
  2. Select Delete Post
  3. Confirm with Delete post

Deleting a post also deletes its comments, for every member. Everyone can delete their own posts; owners and admins can delete any post in the community.

Pinning posts

Pin the posts every member should see, such as house rules, a weekly plan or a welcome message.

  1. Click the three-dot menu on a published post
  2. Select Pin Post

Pinned posts move out of the feed into a Pinned section at the top of the Discussion tab, shown as compact cards that you can collapse, and appear in full on the Pinned tab. To unpin a post, open the same menu and select Unpin Post; it returns to its place in the feed.

Only owners and admins can pin and unpin posts, and only published posts can be pinned.

Reactions

Every member can react to a post. Click Like under a post to react with a thumbs-up, and click it again to take the reaction back. For the other reactions, rest the mouse on Like (or, in the client app, press and hold it) to open the picker:

ReactionEmoji
Like👍
Love❤️
Care🥰
Haha😆
Wow😮
Sad😢
Angry😡

Each member has one reaction per post; picking another replaces it. Under the post, the three most used reactions show with the total, for example “You and 2 others”. Click that summary to open Reactions, with an All tab and a tab for each reaction listing who reacted.

Comments and replies

Comments and replies support @mentions, emoji and GIFs, just like posts.

Commenting on a post

  1. Type in Write a comment... under the post, or click Comment to open the post with all its comments
  2. Optionally add an emoji or a GIF, or @mention a member
  3. Press Enter to send

A comment can be up to 2,000 characters, or just a GIF. Each post shows its latest comments; click View previous comments to load older ones.

Replying to a comment

  1. Click Reply under a comment
  2. Type in Write a reply...
  3. Press Enter to send

Replies appear indented under the comment they answer. Replies go one level deep: you reply to comments, not to replies.

Liking, editing and deleting comments

  • Click Like under a comment or reply to like it; click again to undo. The number of likes shows next to it
  • To edit your own comment or reply, open its three-dot menu and select Edit
  • To delete a comment or reply, open its three-dot menu and select Delete. Everyone can delete their own; owners and admins can delete anyone’s

Coaches’ names carry a Coach badge in comments, so members can tell who is on your team.

Polls

Polls let you ask the community a quick question and see the answers at a glance.

  1. Click the poll button in the composer bar, or in Create Post
  2. Write the question in Write something...
  3. Fill in Option 1 and Option 2, and click Add option for more
  4. Click Publish
  • A poll has 2 to 5 options, each up to 30 characters, and no two options can be the same
  • A poll post cannot also carry photos, videos or GIFs
  • Members vote by clicking an option, and can change their vote by clicking another one
  • Everyone sees the percentage for each option and the total number of votes

Once someone has voted, the options are locked: the poll shows “Options are locked because members have already voted.” when you edit the post. The poll’s author is notified the first time each member votes.

Searching posts

  1. Click the search button (Search posts) next to the community tabs
  2. Type a word or phrase in Search posts...
  3. Press Enter

The Discussion tab then shows only matching posts, under Showing results for: and your search. If nothing matches, it says No results found. Click Clear search, or the × on the banner, to go back to the full feed.

Community settings

Community settings decide what clients can do in a community. Owners and admins open them from the three-dot menu: Community Settings.

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Allow Client PostingOnWhen off, clients cannot create posts. They can still read, react, comment and vote.
Allow Client CommentsOnWhen off, clients cannot comment or reply. They can still react to posts and vote in polls.
Show Member ListOnWhen off, clients cannot see who else is in the community, and can @mention only coaches.

Each switch saves as soon as you flip it and applies straight away. The settings affect clients only; coaches can always post, comment and see the members.

Turn posting and comments off for an announcements-only community, leave everything on for an open discussion group, or combine them in between.

Notification settings

Every member chooses which community notifications they receive, community by community:

SettingNotifies you when
New PostsA new post is published in the community
LikesSomeone reacts to your post
CommentsSomeone comments on your post or replies to your comment
MentionsSomeone mentions you in a post or comment
Poll VotesSomeone votes on your poll

All five are on by default and save as soon as you flip a switch. Coaches open them from the three-dot menu: Notification Settings. Clients open them from the about screen of the community in the client app.

Community notifications arrive as push notifications, on the client’s phone and in your browser if you turned browser notifications on, and are listed under the bell. They are titled with the community’s name, for example “Ana commented on your post”, and open the post when tapped.

Notifications go to members only. As an owner or admin you can open every community, but you hear about one only after you add yourself as a member in Manage Access. Reactions and votes notify only the first time a person reacts or votes on a post.

Community in the client app

Clients find their communities on the Home screen of the Fitora app on iPhone and Android, in a Community card that lists each community they belong to with its member count. Tapping one opens it.

  • The community screen shows the cover image, the name and the member count, with buttons to go back, open the about screen and search posts
  • When posting is allowed, Write something... opens the composer. Clients can add photos, a video, a GIF or a poll, and publish with the send button at the top right; their posts go out straight away
  • Pinned posts sit in a Pinned section above the feed, and pulling down refreshes the feed
  • Clients react (a long press on Like opens all seven reactions), comment, reply, like comments and vote in polls
  • On their own posts, the three-dot menu offers Edit Post and Delete Post; they can also edit and delete their own comments
  • The about screen shows the description, a notifications button for their notification settings and, when Show Member List is on, the member list

When Allow Client Comments is off and a client tries to comment, the app tells them that comments are turned off for members of this community.

For the rest of the client app, see Client app.
