Habits

Build a habit library, assign habits with goals, schedules and reminders, and follow every client’s streaks.

Habits overview

Habits turn the small daily behaviours behind your clients’ results into something you can measure. Every habit has a goal, a unit and a schedule, so your client knows exactly what to do and you can see at a glance whether they did it.

You work with habits in two places:

  • Habits in the sidebar, under Library: your workspace’s library of reusable habits
  • The Habits tab on a client’s profile: the habits assigned to that client, with their calendar, streaks and weekly summary

From these two places you can:

  • Build reusable habits from scratch or from the ready-made Fitora Library
  • Assign habits to a client with a start date and an optional end date
  • Set a daily or weekly goal in a unit such as minutes, cups, litres or kilometres
  • Send the client a reminder notification at a time you choose
  • Log, edit or reset values on the client’s behalf
  • Follow streaks, completion rates and a Monday-to-Sunday summary of every habit

Your clients track their habits in the client app on iPhone and Android, from the Habits tab and from the Home screen.

Only the workspace owner and admins can add, edit or delete habits in the library. Every coach can assign, edit and delete habits for the clients they work with. See Team.

Understanding habit settings

Library habits and client habits use the same editor, so it helps to know its settings before you create your first habit.

Emoji and name

Every habit needs an Emoji and a Habit name of up to 50 characters. The emoji appears next to the habit everywhere: in your library, on the client’s profile and in the client app.

Description

An optional Description of up to 1,000 characters. Use it to explain how to track the habit or what counts as done. Your client can read it from the info button on the habit’s screen in the app.

Goal and unit

Under Goal and schedule, enter a Goal and choose a Unit. The goal must be greater than zero and can have up to three decimal places. The client logs values in that unit, and a day or a week is complete when the logged value reaches the goal. The Unit list includes:

MeasureUnits
Timemin, sec, hour
Repetitionstimes, count
Drinks and volumedrink, cups, ml, liters, oz
Distancem, km, mile
Energycal
Weightg, mg

For a simple done-or-not habit, such as “Take vitamins”, set the goal to 1 and the unit to times. The client then completes the day with a single tap on the tick in the app.

Frequency

Under Frequency, choose Daily or Weekly:

FrequencyThe goal applies toCounts as complete when
DailyEach day of the weekThat day’s value reaches the goal
WeeklyThe whole week, Monday to SundayThe values logged across the week add up to the goal

Goal, unit and frequency read together, for example “8 cups /day” or “20 km /week” in your library.

Repeat on (weekly habits)

A daily habit is due every day. For a weekly habit, tick at least one day under Repeat on. These days decide when the habit appears in the client’s list for today and when reminders are sent. The week itself runs until Sunday, whichever days are ticked.

Clients can log a weekly habit on any day of its week, not only on the ticked days, and every value counts toward the weekly total. On the calendars, each ticked day is measured against its share of the weekly goal, and once the week’s total reaches the goal, every day that contributed shows as done.

Active dates (client habits)

When you assign a habit, Active dates sets when it runs. The Start date is required and starts out as today in the client’s time zone. Turn on Include end date to pick an End date, which must be on or after the start date. Without an end date, the habit keeps running until you change it.

In the client app, the dates sort habits into three cards:

Card in the appWhenWhat the client can do
HabitsThe start date has arrived and the end date, if any, has not passedSee and log the habit
UpcomingThe start date is in the futureSee the habit and its start date; logging opens on the start date
CompletedThe end date has passedOpen the habit to look back; no new values

Duration (library habits)

Library habits have no dates, but you can give them a length. Under Limit habit duration, turn on Set duration and enter the Duration in days as a whole number. When you assign the habit, its end date is filled in for you: a 30-day habit that starts on 1 October ends on 30 October. Leave it off for an ongoing habit.

Reminder

Turn on Send reminder to send the client a push notification, and set:

  • Reminder time: when to send it, in the client’s own time zone. It starts at 09:00
  • Reminder message: the text of the notification, up to 255 characters, for example “Time for your evening walk”. The habit’s name is the notification’s title

Reminders go out on every day the habit is due (every day for a daily habit, the Repeat on days for a weekly one), from the start date until the end date.

Start the reminder message with the habit’s emoji so the notification is recognisable at a glance.

Creating a habit in your library

Library habits are reusable templates. Build a habit once and assign it to any client later, instead of setting it up from scratch every time.

  1. Open Habits in the sidebar, under Library
  2. Click + Add Habit in the top-right corner
  3. On the New Habit tab, click Emoji to choose an emoji, then type a Habit name
  4. Optionally add a Description with instructions for the client
  5. Under Goal and schedule, enter the Goal, choose a Unit and pick Daily or Weekly under Frequency
  6. For a weekly habit, tick the days under Repeat on
  7. Optionally turn on Set duration and enter the Duration in days
  8. Optionally turn on Send reminder and set the Reminder time and Reminder message
  9. Click Add Habit

The library lists every habit with its emoji, name and description, its Habit Goal, and its Days, including the reminder time when a reminder is set.

Library habits are not assigned to anyone. A client only gets a habit when you assign it from their profile.

Starting from the Fitora Library

The Fitora Library holds ready-made habits, grouped by category. Use one as a starting point and change anything before you save it.

  1. Click + Add Habit on the Habits page, or + New Habit on a client’s Habits tab
  2. Switch to the Fitora Library tab
  3. Browse the categories: Lifestyle, Healthy, Mental and Life
  4. Click a habit. Its emoji, name, goal, schedule and reminder are copied into the New Habit tab
  5. Change whatever you need
  6. Click Add Habit to save it to your library, or Assign Habit when you are on a client’s profile

Assigning a habit to a client

  1. Open Clients in the sidebar and open the client’s profile
  2. Go to the Habits tab
  3. Click + New Habit. The Assign Habit dialog opens
  4. Choose a source: New Habit to start from scratch, Your Library for your saved habits, or Fitora Library for ready-made ones. Clicking a library habit copies it into the New Habit tab
  5. Adjust the emoji, name, goal, unit, frequency and days
  6. Under Active dates, check the Start date, and optionally turn on Include end date and pick an End date
  7. Set up a reminder if you want one, then click Assign Habit

The client gets a “New habit” notification, and tapping it opens the Habits tab in the app. The assignment also appears in the Activity Log on the client’s Overview tab.

When you pick a library habit with a duration, the end date is calculated from the start date. If you change the start date, the end date moves with it until you set the end date yourself.

An assigned habit is the client’s own copy. Editing or deleting the library habit later does not change habits you have already assigned, and editing a client’s habit does not change your library.

Editing and deleting habits

Editing a client’s habit

  1. Open the client’s Habits tab and select the habit in the Assigned Habits list
  2. Click Edit at the top of the habit
  3. Change any setting: emoji, name, goal, unit, frequency, days, dates or reminder
  4. Click Save Habit

Progress is always scored against the habit’s current goal and schedule. If you change the goal or the frequency, past days and weeks are scored again under the new settings, which can change the streaks and the completion rate.

To keep the record under the old goal, set an end date on the current habit and assign a new habit with the new goal, starting the next day.

Editing a library habit

  1. Open Habits in the sidebar
  2. Click the habit’s row, or open its three-dot menu and click Edit
  3. Change the settings in the Edit Habit dialog
  4. Click Save Changes

Deleting a habit

  • Library habit: open the habit’s three-dot menu, click Delete and confirm with Delete habit. It leaves your library; habits already assigned to clients stay
  • Client habit: select the habit on the client’s Habits tab, click Delete and confirm with Delete Habit. The assignment and all its recorded values are permanently deleted

Deleting a client’s habit cannot be undone. To stop a habit but keep its history, set an end date instead: the client then finds it under Completed.

Logging values for a client

You can add, change or reset a client’s values from their Habits tab, for example when they report a day in a message.

  1. Open the client’s Habits tab and select the habit
  2. In the Month Calendar, click a day. Any day from the start date up to today can be logged
  3. In the Add Value dialog, enter the value in the habit’s unit and check the Date
  4. Click Add Value

To change a value, click its day in the calendar, or open the three-dot menu next to it under Recorded Values and click Edit, then Save Value. To remove a value, click Reset Value in the same dialog or menu and confirm. The day then has no recorded value.

Each day holds one value. The value you enter replaces whatever is recorded for that day. Days in the future or outside the habit’s dates cannot be logged.

Reviewing a client’s habits

The client’s Habits tab has two views, switched at the top: Habit and Summary.

Habit view

On the left, Assigned Habits lists every habit with its emoji, name and goal, such as “8 cups daily” or “20 km weekly on Mon, Thu”. Select one to see its details:

  • Header: the emoji, name, goal and description, arrows and a month picker to move between months, and the Edit and Delete buttons
  • Stat cards: Current Streak, Longest Streak, Completed and Completion Rate (see How streaks work)
  • Month Calendar: every day of the month with its status and the value logged
  • Recorded Values: the values for the selected month, newest first, with the Value and the Date

Each calendar day carries one of these statuses:

StatusMeaning
DoneThe goal was reached
PartialSomething was logged, but less than the goal
DueDue today or later, nothing logged yet
MissedA due day that passed with nothing logged
RestNot one of the habit’s days
OutsideBefore the start date or after the end date

For a weekly habit, the calendar has an extra Week column that shows whether each week landed, with the week’s total against the goal, for example “12 km / 20 km”.

Summary view

  1. Switch to Summary
  2. Choose the week to review with the week picker
  3. Read the table: one row per habit, a column for each day from Monday to Sunday, and an Avg. column

Each day cell shows the day’s status and value. The Avg. column shows the average of the values logged that week and a “% complete” figure: for a daily habit, the share of the week’s due days so far that were completed; for a weekly habit, how far the week’s total got toward the goal.

Habits on the Overview tab

The Habits card on the client’s Overview tab shows how many of today’s habits are done, such as “2/3 done today”, and a row of dots for each habit across the current week.

Open the Summary view before a check-in call to see in one table which habits the client is keeping and which need attention.

How streaks work

A streak counts consecutive periods in which the client reached the goal: days for a daily habit, weeks for a weekly one. The cards say which, for example “5 days” or “2 weeks”.

  • Daily habits: every day the goal is reached adds one to the streak
  • Weekly habits: every week whose total reaches the goal adds one
StatWhat it counts
Current StreakThe run of consecutive days or weeks with the goal reached, up to the most recent one. Today, or the current week, does not break it while it is still in progress
Longest Streak (Best Streak in the client app)The longest run since the habit started
Completed (Total Completed in the client app)How many days or weeks have reached the goal since the habit started
Completion RateThe share of due days or weeks that reached the goal (see below)
Vol. Total (client app)The sum of all values logged
Avg per Day / Avg per Week (client app)The average value per logged day, or per logged week for a weekly habit

A streak breaks when a due day, or a whole week, passes without reaching the goal. The current streak then starts again from zero, while the longest streak keeps its record.

Resetting a value, yours or the client’s, can break a streak if that day or week drops below the goal.

How completion rate works

Completion rate is the number of completed periods divided by the periods that were due, times 100. It is rounded down and never goes above 100%.

  • Daily habits: the due days since the habit started that have already passed. Today counts only once it is done, so an unfinished today never lowers the rate
  • Weekly habits: the weeks since the habit started that are over, plus the current week once it is complete

Days outside the habit’s dates never count. The weekly Summary shows its own “% complete” for the chosen week, and the client’s Weekly Progress in the app measures the current week across all of their habits.

Tracking habits in the client app

Clients track habits in the client app on iPhone and Android, from the Habits tab in the bottom bar and from the Home screen.

The Habits tab

CardWhat it shows
Weekly ProgressHow much of this week’s habit goals the client has banked, as a percentage, with a tick once the week is complete. Each due day of a daily habit and each weekly habit counts, with partial credit for partial values
Last 7 daysA bar for each of the last seven days and the number of values logged; tapping a bar shows that day’s count
HabitsThe active habits, each with a ring for today’s progress, the current streak (for example “🔥 3 days”) or the schedule, and a mark for each day of the week
UpcomingHabits that have not started yet, with their start date. Tapping one explains that it is not available yet
CompletedHabits that have ended, with their end date. The client can still open them to look back

A habit’s screen

Tapping a habit opens its screen:

  • Goal: the goal, for example “8 / CUPS EVERY DAY”, and an info button that shows the Description, the Scheduled Days and, if set, when the habit ends
  • Today’s progress, for example “3/8 CUPS”, with a + button to log it
  • A calendar with arrows to change the month. Days the client can log are ringed: a full ring means done, a partial arc shows partial progress
  • Six tiles: Total Completed, Completion Rate, Current Streak, Best Streak, Vol. Total and Avg per Day (Avg per Week for a weekly habit)

Once a habit has ended, its screen shows “Congratulations! 🚀 Your habit has ended.” and takes no new values.

Logging a value

Clients tap the + button to log today, or tap any ringed day on the calendar to fill in a day they missed, back to the start date. A sheet opens with a large ring showing progress toward the goal (for a weekly habit, the week’s total) and three buttons:

  • Add: enter an amount, which is added to what is already logged for that day
  • The tick: logs exactly what is still missing to reach the goal, in one tap
  • The reset button: removes the day’s value once the client confirms with Reset Habit

On the Home screen

Habits due today also appear in the Habits section of today’s list on the Home screen, with the progress so far (for example “3/8 CUPS”, highlighted once done) and a + button to log without leaving Home. A weekly habit appears there on its Repeat on days; on other days the client logs it from the habit’s screen.

Notifications

Clients get a notification when you assign a habit, and a reminder at the time you set when the habit has one. Tapping either opens the Habits tab. Reminders only arrive if notifications are allowed for Fitora on the phone.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t my client log their habit yet?
The habit most likely starts in the future. Until its start date the client sees it under Upcoming and cannot log it. Check the start date by editing the habit on the client’s Habits tab.
Can clients log a day they forgot?
Yes. Clients can tap any day on the habit’s calendar from the start date up to today and log it. Future days cannot be logged.
Why is my client not receiving habit reminders?
Check that the reminder is turned on for that habit, that the habit has started and not ended, and that today is one of its days. Reminders use the client’s time zone, notifications must be allowed for Fitora on the phone, and archived clients do not get reminders.
Can I change a habit from daily to weekly?
Yes. Edit the habit and change the frequency. Progress is then scored under the new setting, including past days, so streaks and completion rates can change.
What happens to past progress when I change a habit’s goal?
Fitora scores every day against the habit’s current goal, so past days are re-scored. To keep the old record, end the current habit and assign a new one with the new goal.
Do weekly habits need to be logged every day?
No. Values logged on any day of the week add up, and the week is complete as soon as the total reaches the goal.
Does editing a library habit change habits already assigned to clients?
No. Each assigned habit is the client’s own copy. Edit it on the client’s Habits tab to change it for that client.
Why did my client’s streak reset?
A streak resets when a due day, or for a weekly habit a whole week, passes without reaching the goal. The longest streak keeps its record.
